Dyson Soft Dusting Brush Review

Dyson Soft Dusting BrushFirst off let me say that YES - this is the Dyson soft dusting brush even though Amazon doesn't seem to have a picture up for some reason.I was a bit nervous when I ordered the attachment because there was a listing with picture but "out of stock," and then this one, which was in stock but no picture.Unfortunately when I ordered it there were no reviews to confirm the product was what I thought.However when it arrived it was the correct item, so it all turned out ok.

How it works -
The attachment is around a foot long (including bristles); it is a lint remover brush-head surrounded by soft plastic bristles.The red area is the lint remover (think of the dog hair removal brushes your mom uses); it has two suction holes - one at the head, one at the base - which allow the swept dust to be sucked into the vacuum while running.When both holes are covered (such as when doing a large, flat surface) the suction is as powerful as any of the other Dyson wand attachments.When only one hole is covered or there is a break in the surface between the two holes (smaller surfaces or blinds) the suction is still strong, but not quite as "vice-like."The idea behind the brush is that the vacuum action will suck in all the dust instead of allowing it to escape into the air.In this regard, the Dyson seems to leave a much smaller "dust footprint" than manual dusters because it does not cause dust clouds.As with all Dyson wand attachments, the dusting brush comes with two adapters which plug straight into the wand which allow it to be used with any type of Dyson vacuum.

Pros and Cons -
I bought the dusting attachment because the brush heads that came with the DC17 weren't cutting it for what I needed.They were either too small or did not form a tight enough seal around the areas I was dusting to pick up all the dust and debris.I live in an old house with old fashion plaster walls and with three furry dogs, so there is constantly dust in the house.

The Dusting Brush is very good for handling things like blinds and large, flat surfaces, but not quite as well in the little hard to reach spots or thin areas.So the brush will get all the dust on the entertainment center, floor-standing speakers, coffee table, etc, however the rear speaker stand, some furniture molding, tight corners - will all require touch-up even after vacuuming.You can pretty much forget dusting behind furniture or in awkward places.Even if you're able to get the brush to fit, chances are you won't form a tight enough seal around the object you're trying to dust for the vacuum action to work.You're still better off using a crevice tool - or no attachment at all.

Also, I purchased this attachment specifically because of the picture of the brush taking the dust off of the TV.The hard surfaces of the dusting brush are prevented from touching your wares only by way of padding.In other words, the suction holes (which are ringed by plastic) are only kept apart from the surface by the padding within the red lint dusting material.If your Dyson "really sucks" (sorry, couldn't think of another way to put it), you may be like me and get nervous about putting this attachment near anything that scratches easily.This brush would be fine for CRT tube TVs or even LCDs, but I think I'm still going to wipe down my plasma manually with a soft rag.

Reading what I've written so far, my review sounds very negative, but I don't want to leave you with that impression.The dusting brush is extremely useful and I would go so far as to say that I hope that Dyson would consider including it as a standard attachment in their future vacuums.However I think most people who look at the Dyson attachments already know what the attachments *can do*, and want to know about what they *can't do*.I do not regret my purchase, and I would definitely make it again because I do use the heck out of the brush, but I'm not using it for the same reasons I had mentally in my head when I purchased it.

Dyson DC23 TurbineHead Canister Vacuum Review

Dyson DC23 TurbineHead Canister VacuumDespite the fact that the Dysons have never been a top pick on Consumer Reports (even though they consistently rate high for brand reliability), I went ahead and purchased the DC23 Turbinehead from Target for $399.

As people often find when purchasing a new vacuum, they pick up a lot of dust and dirt in the carpet that their old vacuum left behind. Mainly because most older vacuums just lose suction even if you replace the filters and maintain all the parts. I find that to be frustrating and disappointing, and that's mainly one of the reasons that I went with the Dyson -- I'm hoping it lives up to their tagline (Never Loses Suction).

The suction on the DC23 is good. The turbine head attachment spins quickly and pulls in cat litter and other little particles in the carpet. I was revolted by the giant thick dust ball I picked up in just one bedroom with the first use. The DC23 does it's job well. So here's the run down of what I like and don't like about this model:

Likes
-Excellent suction, vacuums well. Easily picks up all the cat hair and cat litter I throw at it.
-Small, light weight and portable
-Beautifully designed -- it's shocking to look at this model next to all the Hoovers, Dirt Devils, and Bissells of the world that look like something straight out of the 80's. Also glad they are moving away from the yellow plastic!
-Easy to empty dust bin, no bags
-Because of the small head, this vacuum can go where most uprights cannot -- under beds and tables.

Dislikes
-It's a little expensive, however, will be well worth it if it actually lasts a long time without losing suction
-Storage is a little flimsy -- the hose just sort of hangs out off of the vacuum and the head attachment very loosely attaches to the canister base.

Dyson DC31 Animal Handheld Vacuum Review

Dyson DC31 Animal Handheld VacuumThis unit is quiet, powerful, and sucks up my German "Shedders" hair in a jiffy. I have three sets of carpeted stairs in my house, and it's so wonderful to whip this light-weight machine out and take care of all three sets of stairs in mere minutes. No power cords, no maneuvering a heavy machine - it's quick and efficient. I was concerned about the battery cutting out after 6/10 minutes, but so far it hasn't been an issue. If anything, it makes me more efficient! No dilly-dallying allowed, I get right to what needs to be vacuumed and find I'm finished long before the battery discharges. This Dyson is expensive, but if you have a pet who sheds like crazy - you'll be very happy to have invested in this machine. Can't wait to try it out in my vehicle.

Dyson DC31 Handheld Vacuum Review

Dyson DC31 Handheld VacuumThe biggest problem with the previous model was the poor battery life. That has been greatly improved in two ways.This model has doubled the battery life and it has a better charger. I loved my first Dyson handheld model in spite of the short battery life and used it often for short jobs.Like this one, it was so easy to grab and use, I was able to keep corners clean, crumbs out of the grout lines in my tile table, computer keyboards clean, drawers clear of all that little stuff that seems to get in them--in short my house was just cleaner in multiple ways that are normally challenging.I loved the trigger on/off action that made its short battery life tolerable and the dependable strong Dyson power, plus the easily dumpable canister.SO, when the battery life began to get shorter and shorter over time, in spite of being fully charged, I anguished.Should I spend $75 for a new battery that might only repeat the fading performance of the first or invest that money in this new model?

I finally chose the latter and am so glad I did.I hated spending so much, but the value of being able to get things clean FAST means a lot to me and that often means a quick burst here and a burst there when I notice something that needs attention. This new model is somewhat smaller, lighter weight and quieter, plus has a dual power setting.The normal power setting is fine for most things, in fact I haven't needed the strong setting at all except to get dog hair out of the crevices of my stair treads.The 10 minute run time is longer than it seems because the trigger action means the unit is on only when you're squeezing the trigger to actually vacuum something, not when moving to another location or shifting position.That's not only easier on the ears, it makes the work go more smoothly.You can vacuum an area, then set the unit down (because it sits upright it has a relatively small footprint) and move stuff, clean out the next drawer, sort the papers you gathered, whatever, and then vacuum the next bit without any pressure to get all the vacuuming done in one shot, or perpetually turning the thing on and off.

I've been able to clean out and vacuum my entire car including the 'way back', a process that certainly took longer than 10 minutes, but because the vacuum is not on continually I had no problem, in fact it shows no indication it's near the end of the charge. I can clean out all my kitchen drawers or the entire linen closet or all the nooks and crannies in a room on a charge with no problem, but I rarely do that.I do one drawer, one shelf, one bookcase.I do small projects quickly because I hate cleaning and this unit suits my style to a tee.

This model doesn't have a bulky charger like the old one.It has a plug-in cord like a laptop and apparently some technology in the wall plug part that somehow knows to shut itself off after 3.5 hours so it's not 'tiring' the fully charged battery. I'm expecting this battery to last far longer than the earlier model.This vacuum also has a quicker on/off time and generally seems handier.

The directions are minimal and almost entirely pictures.They are well done and self-explanatory.So far I'm delighted with this hand vacuum.It is better than its predecessor, the Root 6.It comes with a normal length crevice tool, in addition to a two-position brush tool.I also purchased the longer flexible crevice tool, but have found it heavy and awkward so I almost never use that.I love this little hand vacuum so much more than the other choices available (several of which I've tried in the past) and highly recommend it even given the high price.

Dyson DC14 All-Floors Cyclone Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

Dyson DC14 All-Floors Cyclone Upright Vacuum CleanerDyson is a great product but it's certainly NOT perfect. The 'Never lose suction' tagline is a marketing ploy, since Dyson too will get clogged and lose suction if not properly maintained. All other vacuum machines will NOT lose suction either if the filter bags are replaced often enough.

Overall, however, its performance beats all other vacuums (including the over-hyped Oreck, which is simply a rip-off) hands-down.

- Every few months, the user must clean out the central cylinder of the very fine dust, or it will get clogged and lose suction. The way you do this is by removing the dust collector and then separate the core cylinder from the glass casing. Use another vacuum to suck dirt out of the little holes on the side of the cylinder. Also, if you look up the cylinder from the bottom, you'll see caked dust collected at the top of the cylinder. If you gently bang the cylinder (upright) on the floor, you'll be shocked how much fine dust (about two cups worth) will fall out of the cylinder. Use the other vacuum to suck them away. Also, take out the 'permanent' filter and wash them. They, too, get clogged with the very fine dust.

- The machine is very heavy and bulky, and it's quite a chore to transport it between floors. The hose extension is very awkward to use because the point of bending is near the tip. The high profile of the vacuum head makes it impossible to vacuum under the bed, couch, etc.

- The instruction manual is poorly written, and setting up and maintaining the machine takes a steep learning curve. Dyson should include a video instruction.

- I, too, and concerned about how much carpet fiber the Dyson is tearing off the carpet, which you can clearly see in the dust collector. However, you can also see the amount of coarse and fine dust it's picking up as well. One impressive feature of Dyson that lived up to the hype is that it will pick up much dust from carpet that was just cleaned by a regular vacuum machine.

- Dyson rarely goes on sale, but I bought mine at Sears, which had Dyson on sale last year for $379. Also, buy the regular Dyson and avoid the 'Animal', which is a rip-off. The rotating brush that comes with the 'Animal' is air powered and is too weak to work well on the stairs.

Summary: If you have a large house with a lot of carpeted areas, then Dyson is for you. You may also build some muscle by carrying this behemoth up and down the stairs. However, you may need another vacuum for the stairs and also for a quick clean up in the kitchen.

Product Description:
Designed for all floor types, this Dyson upright vacuum cleaner features a motorized brushbar that can be turned on to remove dirt and pet hair from carpets, or turned off to protect rugs and delicate floors. The vacuum cleaner uses Root Cyclone technology to ensure no loss of suction. Dyson proves no loss of suction using the IEC 60312 Cl 2.9 test standard. The unit's pre-motor filter removes particles down to 0.1 micron and can be washed, while its post-motor electrostatic filter, which never needs replacing, traps harmful carbon emissions from the motor.
The vacuum cleaner also comes equipped with a quick-draw Telescope reach; the wand releases and expands 17-feet at the touch of a button for stairs and high-reach cleaning. In addition, special edge-cleaning whiskers, angled to reach down between the skirting board and the floor, flick the dust from the edge into the airflow. The intake nozzles of the on-board tools direct high-velocity airflow down into the carpet pile, which provides two main advantages. More gets picked up because the directional force of the air agitates and dislodges dust, and it keeps airflow continuous even when vacuuming curtains or upholstery, preventing them from becoming stuck to the cleaner.

Thoughtfully designed, the unit's hygienic 5/7-gallon bin quickly empties without ever having to touch the dust--simply pull the trigger. The clear bin means no bags to buy, plus it allows for easily viewing the cleaning progress and gauging when it's full. Air expelled from the unit contains up to 150 times less mold and bacteria than common breathing air thanks to the vacuum's money-saving, lifetime HEPA filter. Furthermore, Dyson upright vacuums are the first and only vacuums certified asthma friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation. Other highlights include a 14-foot quick-draw hose, a wide channel for picking up larger pieces, auto carpet-height adjustment, a 35-2/5-foot cord, and an ergonomic design with a low handle that feels lighter to carry. The durably built vacuum cleaner measures 13-3/8 by 14 by 44-6/7 inches and carries a five-year warranty.

Dyson DC24 Ball All-Floors Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

Dyson DC24 Ball All-Floors Upright Vacuum CleanerI bought the DC 24 to replace a small vacuum and was my first Dyson purchase (though I have used them regularly in the past). I would not recommend this vacuum to replace a dedicated large upright.Dyson uses "airwatts" to specify the power of the vacuums and the DC 24 has 115 airwatts vs. 220 airwatts for the DC 25 and DC 15. Not knowing how many airwatts other vacuums use, I can only guess similar comparisons to other brands.
=================
What to Like
=================
The DC 24 vacuum is lightweight 11.5lbs (DC25 16.1lbs and DC15 19.95lbs) and can go up and down stairs without problems (3 story condo).In fact, instead of using the hose attachment for the stairs I prefer to use the vacuum itself.It has a nicely placed handle in the front for this function (like a weed trimmer).You have to hold it out away from your body, as the brushes don't spin if the unit is placed upright.

Despite being lightweight and lower power, it has consistent suction and still get's a lot of dirt and dog hair out of the carpet.

The "Ball" allows the vacuum to access small, hard to reach areas without using the attachment.It is similar to using a swivel head on a mop.It handles my hardwood floors well, and now has replaced my sweeper.

The no-mess canister, easy to dump out with just a push of a button.

The washable hepa filter.This is one reason I do not have a problem with paying more for a Dyson.Effective heppa filtration requires regular replacement and that adds up in extra dollars.The dyson solves that with an easy clean filter.

5 year warranty. You will probably experience a disconcerting feeling when it's out of the box and it seems like flimsy construction.I usually destroy vacuums and so far this vacuum has held up well.I think the flimsy feeling comes from it's flexibility, the adjustment points and the ball.Trust me, I have dropped it a few times down a flight of stairs on the hardwood and it still looks and works as good a new.

Compact storage... that goes hand in hand with light weight, but it also telescopes down in height to fit under shelves for storage.

Coolest Dyson feature for me is the no-tool brushbar access/removal. Makes it very easy to remove obstructions from the brushbar without a tool set.
=================
What not to Like
=================
The attachment is difficult to convert, this is not unique to this Dyson model.Some cleaver engineer came up with a way to make this attachment compact and self contained, but impossible to convert the first 10-15 times you use it. Dyson does have more expensive models that have easier to use attachments.After using their products for awhile, I have become a Dyson attachment Jedi Master.

The hose for the attachments is short.It can't reach my 10' ceilings without lifting the base up off the floor.I recommend the Dyson's flexible attachment for dust and/or cobwebs.
=================
Other Notes
=================
The vacuum has trouble with large items (clumps of dog toy stuffing) that big vacuums normally don't hiccup on.It either doesn't have the brush head height or the plumbing for large items. It's not really a negative for me, as I learned early on to pick up big items that might destroy a perfectly working vacuum motor. I didn't have the same problem with using only the attachment.

Dyson DC25 Ball All-Floors Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

Dyson DC25 Ball All-Floors Upright Vacuum CleanerWe were going to buy the DC07, but decided the DC25 was worth the upgrade....boy, were we right!!!
The main clencher is the ease of using the attachment tools, with the DC25, you just extend the telescoping pole, and, voila! you're ready to go!{the DC07 requires plugging/unplugging to use the attachment tools} I found myself attacking every corner and groove with specks of dirt/cobwebs in it (LOVE this thing for cleaning the ac intake grates and the fins of our air filters!)...most of them without ever having to bend over.
Of course there is the fantastic suction, but then, you expect that from Dyson's reputation...it was disgusting what it got out of our carpet (we have no pets, no kids, and don't wear shoes in the house; I vacuum very regularly, anyways) the first time.
If you don't think you'll use the attachment/tools much, the cheaper models might work for you, but if you appreciate being able to easily attack the tiny corners and grooves no upright can fit into, you're probably dreaming of this model.
The "Ball" feature makes turning and getting into weird corners a breeze, although it may take some people a while to get used to; I've been using a swivel-head mop for years, so I'm used to the motion.
FYI, if you get those 20% off coupons from a certain store that sells stuff for Beds, Baths and, well, you know, that last "B"..you can try all the Dyson vacuums in the store, purchase your Dyson from them with a coupon (saving you $100 on this model!), not pay for shipping, and have the ease of returning/exchanging at a local store if you should have a problem.

Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

Dyson DC25 Animal Ball-Technology Upright Vacuum CleanerI've owned just about every top rated vacuum that has been made. I was never satisfied, mostly because they where too heavy to handle, or the animal hair was blown about, rather than sucked up. I do have a canister vacuum that I have had for years, but I wanted a satisfactory upright that was light and easy to handle. I have a cat and a dog, and there is lots of shedding hair, all the time. Our house is mostly hard floors, stairs, and one large rug in the living room. When I saw the DC25 Animal, I decided to spend the money hoping that this vacuum would do the job. It has lived up to my wildest dreams, it is wonderfully easy to handle, so easy to maneuver, the 16 lbs make such a difference compared to those very heavy machines I had before, I had no problem carrying it upstairs. I love that with this vacuum I don't need to select different heights, it goes from floor to carpet to floor. I was even able to clean the dogs bed without the wand attachment. Speaking of the wand/handle attachment you simply flip open the top cap, pull up on the wand, and it disconnects from the vacuum and suction diverts to the wand. It took a little getting use to, the hose is a little stiff and took a while before I was comfortable cleaning the stairs. Most important, THIS VACUUM SUCKS, but in a good way!!
Assembly was fairly easy, suppose to be 3 snaps with no tools. But I had a heck of a time getting it out of the box, and being not mechanically inclined I would have liked better instructions.
I have never reviewed a product before, but this vacuum cleaner has me so excited that I had to share it with someone. I really love this machine!
