Miele S5981 Capricorn with SEB-236 Power brush Review

Miele S5981 Capricorn with SEB-236 Power brushI know alot of people would balk at the idea of paying this much for a vaccum cleaner, understandably so. Quite honestly, I spent a long time weighing my options and researching for this purchase. In the end I went with this one because of the quality, the warranty and how well it worked.

Previously owned a Hoover Windtunnel upright, and there is just simple no comparison, in fact the Hoover is joke. It was a complete tank of a machine, hard to move around, attachments were useless and you could not fit into alot of areas. And in the end, it did was not even close to as effective at cleaning floors, which is really all that matters.

The reasons for going with the Miele:

How effectively it cleans floors! My carpets never looked so good, my hardwood and tile were never to easy to clean.

Long-term investment. You might get sick of a Miele vacuum before it breaks on you.

Technology inside is second to none.

Tried and true design, German engineering and quality. The parts have a nice feel to them, thick plastics, horse-hair brushes. Nothing felt cheap, or loose or flimsy.

Exceptionally quiet.

Size of the machine is small, but make no mistake it is incredibly powerful. About the best feature I have noticed so far about this machine, going from an upright, is the ability to get into tight spaces I could not before.

Controls on the handle are more convenient than I gave credit too before I purchased. Although you can save a decent chunk of change by getting the Calisto with a knob or two instead, if you don't mind. Same motor and power as the Capricorn.

The air quality, oh the air quality! Something we never thought important before, but we don't smell ONE thing while vacuuming. Even if you stick your face over the exhaust! They aren't kidding about these filters, they work and work well. No dust spitting back out into your house all over your furniture.

Some other features that are nice are the onboard attachments, the wheels on the canister that move in any direction (very smart feature), Warning lights on the machine letting you know bag is filled, or machine is over-heated. Cord-wrap is also excellent, and strong. Hard floor tool does an excellent job, simply excellent, you will never need a broom again.

I find almost nothing I don't like about the machine so far, except that occasionally you hit the wrong button on the hand controls unintentionally.

Otherwise the fit and finish is superb, German quality through and through, a real Mercedes of Vacuum cleaners. Some vaccum cleaners (actually most) just re-distribute the dust and dirt in your house. This once truly gets rid of it. And very nice to look at too. : )

Miele S5381 Leo Caniser Vacuum Cleaner plus SEB217-3 Power Head Review

Miele S5381 Leo Caniser Vacuum Cleaner plus SEB217-3 Power HeadI was getting really tired of buying a new vacuum cleaner from Wallyworld every two or three years. When it was time to buy yet another one, I did some research online and discovered a world of expensive vacuums that I never knew existed. But did I want to pay that much? With Miele's reputation and seven-year motor warranty, plus more exhaustive research, [...], I decided to take the plunge.I never realized how well my other vacuum cleaners DIDN'T clean! No more exhaustively passing the vacuum over the same area over and over--this gets the mess up in one pass.I have pets and children (=big messes!), so I have to replace the bag every two weeks or so, but that's a small price to pay for such an efficient machine. I chose the Leo canister because it has a HEPA filter and a hard floor tool, which is great on the ceramic tile floor that makes up most of the flooring in my house. With just a little carpet to clean, the less-expensive SEB217-3 power head is sufficient for me rather than the SEB236 upgrade. It still cleans better than any of my old vacuums. And did I mention how quiet it is?It's not silent, but it's a whole lot quieter than I anticipated. The dogs and cats still don't like it, though :)

Dyson 00048 Mattress Tool Attachment Review

Dyson 00048 Mattress Tool AttachmentThis accessory is the EXACT same thing as the onboard upholstery brush except this one is 50% larger (about 3 inches longer) and the inside hole is bigger so more debris can get through. This is good for getting pet hair off the couches and mattess faster than with the small onboard tool but that's about it. No fancy bells or whistles. No rotating beater bar inside or anything. Glad I didn't pay full price for it!

Dyson DC14 Stair Tool Review

Dyson DC14 Stair ToolWell lets start off and say the description does say aftermarket.I thought though that it was just the OEM replacement because of the picture used is directly lifted from Dyson.Wrong.This is an aftermarket knock-off and the picture is not 100% accurate. The material is a hard plastic (maybe PVC) not the softer PP that is used on the original.Being a harder plastic I would assume that this will break sooner then the original if too much force is applied; like when vacuuming the stairs (not that I broke the original - I actually lost it).

Now it is just an upholstery tool and it works just fine but it is not as nicely made and doesn't seem to want to stay put in the top of the vacuum as well as the original. On top of that it cost as much as the OEM version directly from the Dyson website (shipping was cheaper).Next time I will buy from Dyson.

As far as the company (EZVacuum), they processed the order and shipped pretty quickly.

Dyson Dc14 Lifetime Filter Review

Dyson Dc14 Lifetime FilterThe yellow filter holder is of good quality and comparable with original Dyson part, or so it seems. The blue foam insert is made out of very different foam than what Dyson had used. I don't know for sure, but I assume that the filtration characteristics of the foam are critical to the performance, longevity and safety of operation. The air passing through the foam becomes the cooling air for the motor. If there was too much dust, or if the foam would clog faster than Dyson's, motor damage could potentially result. I decided to play it safe and get the foam from Dyson, but use the yellow holder as mine got brittle with age and broke.

Dyson DC14 Drive Vacuum Review

Dyson DC14 Drive VacuumBefore purchasing the Dyson DC14, I'll have to admit that I had been indecisive in getting a vacuum cleaner because other brands were coming with their own similar version and they were much, much cheaper.

In the end, I decided that I need to bite the bullet and look for a vacuum that would last me a long time and every review on Amazon, people talked about how durable and how the suction has lasted for years.Whereas the cheaper versions on the market, not really.

So, I purchased this three years ago and I wanted to wait on my review and see if this vacuum would truly last.

And I'm here to say that my DYSON DC14 is still going strong.I am just amazed how this vacuum continuously performs aggressively in removing dirt, animal hair, dust, etc.

It's easy to use and I'm glad I didn't go for the thinner, smaller version because for my house, that cannister would have been full to quick. So, all in all, it was money well spent.

It was hard for me to purchase because of the cost but with all said and done, unlike other vacuums that slowly gotten worse overtime, again...three years now and it's still going on strong. So, it was worth the money spent.

Highly recommended!

Dyson Airblade Automatic Hand Dryer, Quick, Efficient, Hygenic, Aluminum, 120 V Review

Dyson Airblade Automatic Hand Dryer, Quick, Efficient, Hygenic, Aluminum, 120 VLike most people, I wince when I see an electric hand dryer in a public restroom -- I know that I will try to use it and end up with either damp hands or I'll walk away wiping my hands on my trousers. Well, I have used the Dyson Airblade dryer in four or five different restrooms scattered around the world and it really works!

You just put your hands in the slot; the air turns on (no heat needed) and strips the water off of your hands as you slowly raise them out of the unit. This is a revolution in electric hand dryers.

I wish every manager of a public bathroom would buy one or two of these. I would even be willing to give up having paper towels as a backup.

Hoover 5507-900 Elite Auto-Rewind Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

Hoover 5507-900 Elite Auto-Rewind Bagless Upright Vacuum CleanerThis vacuum is great.yes, the rewind feature is awesome but also the sheer sucking power of this vac will have you wonder why you ever sat on your carpet without cleaning it with this sucker fist.

Great features:
clear canister so all the dirt-a-phobes can see all the filth they are sucking up
canister has a thumb release so your hands don't have to get near the dust
super easy assebly
on off power switch at the base of the vac so you can turn it on with a toe
lightweight for a strong vac
snappy red color
no bags and a lifetime hepa filter(easy to wash)
3 levels of adjustment for bare floors, burbers and longer thick carpets

Oh yeah and it doesn't cost a lot and you do get an attachment for pet hair that works great on just about anything..lampshades etc.

Update:2009 and I still have mine going strong despite a nicked cord (my fault) and babysitting the hairiest dog on the planet. The giant hair balls clogged the intake hose but I just had to detach it and take the garden hose and blast out the clog.New rule to live by: Don't let a dog into your house who's coat is in the "blow" stage.

Dyson DC27 Vacuum with 3 Extra Accessories Review

Dyson DC27 Vacuum with 3 Extra AccessoriesI am a very particular person about cleaning (I owned and ran a Bed and Breakfast which I cleaned daily). Recently I have been struggling over which vaccum to purchase.I did a LOT of research online, in stores, and had discussions with sales people, asking all the questions I could think of. Over the years I have owned several brands of vacuums including Electolux, Hoover, and Kenmore. When purchasing we typically bought the more expensive types(not always the best idea).I finally decided on an Oreck, and asked my husband to go with me to review the one I had picked out.The day before, the salesman asked me to bring in a piece of my carpet to see if the vacuum would work.Guess what - none of the vaccums they offered would run on my plush carpet. The salesman was a little embarrassed, to say the least. Then my next choice was Dyson. So guess what we just purchased from Sam's Club yesterday - a DC27 Total Clean.

Yesterday, before purchasing the DYSON, I vacuumed the entire house. This morning, after putting the DC27 together, I vacuumed again.I COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT WAS IN THE CANISTER.It made me feel like I never cleaned my house! Now I understand all the rave over Dyson. It is my first week and first cleaning, but it is fabulous! In addition, I forgot to mention was that the small Dyson 6 handheld came with it for quick cleaning, for my car, etc, and all of this for $479.00 at Sam's Club.

All I can say is thank you DYSON and Sam's Club for making this wonderful vacuum and offering it at a price an average person can afford.

Dyson DC17 Total Clean Upright Bagless Vacuum Cleaner Review

Dyson DC17 Total Clean Upright Bagless Vacuum CleanerEver since I starting hearing the hype from Dyson about their vacuums i've been skeptical. From an industrial design stand point they are works of art, however, the intended functionality remained in question.I've owned Hoover, Dirt Devil, Rainbow and Kirby. The Rainbow was the vacuum we had growing up and the water filtration really seemed to make sense. My stint with Kirby was a 30 day in home trial. The vacuum was amazing but I decided to save the $1800 I paid and buy something much less expensive (sub $100 believe it or not). That sub $100 vac was a Dirt Devil bag-less that frustrated me every time I used it.This time around I wanted to pay a little more for a good solid cleaning machine and after 3 weeks of research I narrowed by search to the following:
- Kirby
- Oreck
- Dyson
- Electrolux

After another week of research I narrowed it to Oreck and Dyson.Oreck has a really cool program where you pay for 25% of the vacuum up front and then make monthly payments no interest for 11 months on the balance. This makes it easy to pay for a more expensive vac over time.I was leaning toward the Oreck DutchTech 1400B canister vac.Oreck's top of the line. The total cost of the vac shipped was about $970.00.I had the vac in my shopping cart about 2 or 3 times over the course of a couple days but could never quite hit the purchase button. The main reason being I wasn't quite sure about pulling around a canister vac, the second was the price.I had seen refurbished Dyson's on [...] for $209 in the past and that was less than just the initial payment alone on the Oreck, not to mention another 11 months of about $70 per month...so I held off.Another week passed and I noticed [...] had a refurbished Dyson DC17 platinum blue for $237.00 shipped.I had researched this vac extensively and knew it had Dyson's newest Level 3 Root Cyclone technology for the purest separation and filtration of particles of all the Dyson vacs.I snatched it up figuring a $500.00 vac should be worth the purchase at less than half price.3 days later the Dyson arrived.Keep in mind that I have a house cleaner that comes every 2 weeks and cleans the house top to bottom so my place isn't dirty, the carpets are well kept and it's neat etc.The Dyson immediately had a field day with the carpets sucking up so much stuff that I had to wonder, did my old vacuum do anything at all???The Dirt Devil was immediately tossed in the trash. The Dyson sucked up so much stuff it made me sick to look at it!Every aspect of this machine is truly everything that Dyson claims it to be.Zero suction loss, extremely well built, very smooth sounding motor, extremely high speed brush roll, no non-sense, easy to use operation, ingeniously designed attachments and tools, simple, smart operation and enough suction to pull your carpets from the floor boards! The Kirby was an amazing machine from two standpoints.Suction and construction. If I were in a vacuum demolition derby i'd take the Kirby any day of the week, it's all steel and built like a tank.As far as suction goes, the two are as equal as you can measure without scientific equipment. My Dyson actually fell down about 8 stairs tonight as I was vacuuming the stairs and not one part broke, it kept on sucking so it's not brittle or prone to breakage under normal conditions. One thing I never liked about ANY of the vacuums i've owned is the smell you get when using them. They all just have that yucky dusty vacuum smell. The Dyson claims that stated the air the Dyson outputs is cleaner than the air it took in always seemed ludicrous to me.How could that be?I'm finally a believer.I'm not sure if it's the filter in the Dyson or if there's some sort of smell pack in there? If there is it's certainly not stated, but the air the Dyson outputs smells very good and is just....I guess fresh. It's hard to explain but it does seem to eliminate any odors that may have been in the air before vacuuming. It's pretty amazing...my best guess is that it does filter the air to be cleaner than it was before it got sucked it.Absolutely amazing.

One thing I have to mention is the Dyson mini turbine head.I purchased this separately. It retails at most places for $69.99 but I got it at Fry's for $49.99.I was VERY skeptical about this and figured i'd be returning it the next day.If you've ever used a non powered brush roll (suction powered) you know that most of them stop the moment they touch carpet or anything for that matter. There is simply no torque to turn the brushes.Even my Kirby had an air powered attachment that spun brushes that weren't good for anything.I couldn't fathom how the Dyson could be any different but I figured i'd give it a shot.I thought well, as the company slogan goes, maybe Dyson is different? One word.Unbelievable!!!The Dyson mini turbine head is nothing sort of a remarkable piece of engineering. There is a tiny turbine that spins insanely fast from the suction and it must be geared just right.Honestly, the brush roll is actually hard to stop and it keeps spinning as it brushes the carpet. It is possible to stop with your hand but not without some very firm pressure.Even then once stopped, you can feel the torque attempting to spin the brush roll.If you were blindfolded you'd swear it was electric motor powered...it's honestly THAT GOOD.Combined with the pull out handle that extends into a full 3' cleaning wand with 17' hose coil, the upright now essentially becomes a canister vac and you no longer have to bend down at all to clean stairs or vacuum a small patch of carpet or hard to reach areas. The ergonomics and usability are world class.

If I knew long ago what I know about owning a Dyson now, I would have paid full price for the machine ($500) and felt like I was getting a good deal. This vacuum is worth $1000...$2000 dollars. It's simply an amazing cleaning machine that definitely needs to be classed up there with the Oreck and Kirby ultimate cleaning machines of the world.Way to go Dyson, you've made a customer for life.

Dyson DC22 Motorhead Review

Dyson DC22 MotorheadCompact, bagless, seems to create great suction.Just one problem: the carpet attachment included with this model is narrow and pathetic.I've used my share of vacuums over the years, but I've never seen anything like this.I measure it at 9" across, which means you have to make a lot more passes to cover your floor than other vacuums you've probably used. It's also very lightweight, and rests fairly high on a wheel where it joins the wand, so that it tends to skitter across the carpet rather than aggravating it.This is on normal, tufted wall-to-wall carpet. You can get it to work if you apply downward pressure on the handle while vacuuming.Takes forever.I checked the dyson website, and no other motorhead seems to be available. In short, if you have hardwood, buy the "turbine" (air-powered) version of this.If you have carpet, avoid it like the plague.

Generic Dyson DC-07 All-Floors (Yellow) Attachment Hose Review

Generic Dyson DC-07 All-Floors Attachment HoseI ordered this replacement hose for my Dyson after calling the company directly and finding out they can't sell to customers in New York State due to tax complications.Dyson referred me to a business called Factory Direct which could sell it to me, but the price was $20 more than Dyson's $39.xx.So I purchased this item on Amazon expecting it to be--as described--a 'Dyson' DC07 hose.

When it arrived I realized that this is a generic replacement part, not made by Dyson.Though I returned it because I wanted the genuine article I have to say the quality is very good--not quite the level of the Dyson manufactured part, but certainly an adaquate and functional replacement.

The color didn't match though. The yellow parts are simply bright yellow and not the Steel-Yellow of the vacuum.I would have preferred if they made that bit simply gray instead because the color difference made it look cheesy.

BOTTOM LINE: Though this part is not of equivilant quality to the same by Dyson, it will work just fine. The yellow plastic section is not made of as rigid a plastic as the Dyson, and the color doesn't match, but if you don't care about these things then this is a good replacement of more than adaquate quality for most applications.I don't know if it would stretch the length of a stairway repleatedly as well or as durably as the Dyson hose, but otherwise it will probably hold up just fine.

Dyson DC07 and DC14 Aftermarket Swivel Dusting BrushGotta like this.In an ill-conceived effort to "help", I vacuumed up some crumbs around our stove. There was a rebel crumb holing up near the stove top burner, and well, you guessed it, the burner was still warm and it warped the Dyson brush attachment.I ordered this new one to replace it.This is a better product--the bristles are longer and softer.Probably not heat resistant, but I'm not going to test that.

Dyson DC22 Turbinehead Review

Dyson DC22 TurbineheadHad it two years, most frustrating thing is that is basically an excellent product but that it could be SO MUCH BETTER with a few minor adjustments - wait for the upgraded version!!!

Pros:
This vacuum lives up to one key feature that Dyson uses as a selling point: the filtration is HEPA filter grade - excellent. Also, no bags or throw away containers (hard to believe any vacuums are made otherwise) is a plus.

Cons:
Heavy for a small vacuum

Must be emptied after every use as container is small and fills quickly

Cord is too short - can't reach all the way across at 15' X 12' room, if they would have only added another 2' to the dam thing it would be fine.

Tube neck is too big in diameter to reach under furniture or around car seats and other tight places, the whole thing should be much narrower.

Motor (electrically driven) head suddenly loses power on occasion requiring user to press head specific power button to restart.

Other than these complaints, this product rules.

Hoover WindTunnel Canister Vacuum, Electronic Bagless, S3765-040 Review

Hoover WindTunnel Canister Vacuum, Electronic Bagless, S3765-040I have never done a review of an item before but but I spent so much time researching this vacuum cleaner purchase that I decided to.The other reviews were very helpful so I wanted to give something back. First let me say that this purchase came after a lot of research. I compared most brands on the market and and narrowed the field to the hoover and the Dyson. After a trip to the local store I ruled out the Dyson due to its cumbersome design, high price and the series of steps necessary to use the wand and accessories. What a pain!. In addition the beater brush area is very high on Dyson the and would be very difficult to get under furniture and cabinets. Now that said, let it be know that my wife if a vacaholic. The vacuum runs every day in this house. For the last several years we have used a $400 Panasonic machine and we thought it was doing a good job. We were wrong! A first cleaning with this new hoover has returned several cups of dust and dirt from EACH room!!.Really!.This hoover finds dirt that the Panasonic didn't know existed!. The beater bar is very aggressive it will actually pull the head along if you don't restrain it. At this point I think I will just list the pros and cons as that is easier for the reader. The Pros far out weigh the cons on this machine and I think with a few simple changes hover will have the ultimate machine in this line. We are very pleased.

Pros:
-Incredible suction and very aggressive beater bar.
-Excellent design with a all the controls at your fingers.
-Easy and quick access to wand and tools.
-Automatic cord recoil
-hand held suction powered beater brush
-No bags
-Ease of use
-Nice flexible hose
-convinient handle for carry.
-easy to empty dust bin
-Nice looking machine
-Good value for the price.

Cons:
-Not all the tools store on the unit.
-No electronic dirt sensor.
-brush and wand attachments are small are poorly designed.
-Brush has very short stiff bristle that not serve well on blinds, ceiling fans. etc
-The cord isbit stiff and doesn't seem to match the quality of the rest of the vacuum.
-Dust bin has to be emptied some what frequently.

HQRP 1500mAh Battery for Dyson DC16 Root 6 / Animal / ISSEY MIYAKE exclusive Vacuum Cleaners Replacement plus HQRP Coaster Review

HQRP 1500mAh Battery for Dyson DC16 Root 6 / Animal / ISSEY MIYAKE exclusive Vacuum Cleaners Replacement plus HQRP CoasterThe power seems to last even longer than the original battery that came with the vac- perhaps because technology has advanced in a few years, or... who knows? The only downside (so far; I've only had it for a couple months) is that it doesn't fit as tightly, snug, well, or "completely" as the original. So far that hasn't been a problem, but I worry that down the road - if it shifts in the way it sits - it won't fit in the charger, hanging on the wall, like it does now.

Generic Dyson DC17 Lifetime Filter Review

Generic Dyson DC17 Lifetime FilterI had initially ordered this product based on the picture because my present filter looks exactly like it but when the actual filter arrived it was the wrong one.It did not have the (6 and the tap)on it like the picture, it was white and much larger. However I returned it and made sure to place my next order based on my vacuum's product number. Eventually the correct filter was mailed to me, Filter Part #911685-01. Filter #911685-01 is exactly like the picture, therefore I wish that they would put the correct picture for corresponding filter because that picture DOES NOT accurately represent Filter Part #911236-01.

Dyson DC-17 Washable Filter, Dyson Part # 911236-01This is the washable filter for the Dyson DC17 models only. This will fit both Dyson DC17 Animal, as well as the Dyson DC17 Asthma and Allergy models. This filter is located directly underneath of the dust bin when it has been removed from the vacuum. You can find the filter by finding where the air is being exhausted. This filter should be replaced at least every 3 months. If you notice that your Dyson has lost some of the suction since you've had it, cleaning the filter should be the first place to start.

Dyson Aftermarket DC07 All Floors Hose Silver/Yellow #904125-14This is the product I needed at the price I was willing to pay. Hoover Tempo Widepath Upright Vacuum, Bagged, U5140-900 Review

Hoover Tempo Widepath Upright Vacuum, Bagged, U5140-900Despite the rave reviews here on amazon and on other sites, I was not expecting much with such a low price. My expectations were certainly rewarded with an amazing value, a great vacuum, and the usual Amazon speedy delivery. It is really hard to believe that such a good product could be so inexpensive, even if it is made in Mexico. The build quality is excellent. However, for someone tall, like me, (6'4") the handle is not long enough, the bag is on the small side, and the unit is noisy (but not any more so than other vacuums I have had that were 3x the price), but those are the only negatives after a week of use. Instead of smelling dust while vacuuming, the air coming out of the vacuum is actually fresher and cleaner smelling than the air in the room. Searching amazon, one can find belts for $3 or less and bags less than $1 in quantity, so the unit should be inexpensive to operate. If I get five years out of the unit, I will be more than satisfied.

Black & Decker PHV1800CB 18-Volt Pivoting-Nose Cordless Energy-Star Handheld Vacuum Cleaner Review

Black & Decker PHV1800CB 18-Volt Pivoting-Nose Cordless Energy-Star Handheld Vacuum CleanerWhen our Shark went on the blink for the third time we decided it was time to get serious about a decent handheld vacuum. We own a Dyson full size vacuum so I naturally did my research presuming that the right answer was to get the Dyson cordless as well. However when I compared the reviews (some good, some not so good) to the price it gave me some heartburn so I decided to look around. Glad I did.

I did not have high expectations for this product. By and large I find the Black & Decker brand to be a decent value for the money, but not necessarily great quality. This product changed my opinion. It's very well made, with solid construction and an intriguing design. Those factors are very important to me, but it's a vacuum, so if it doesn't suck none of those factors matter much. Boy, does this thing suck! It's a bit noisy, but when you consider the amount of suction it creates it's little wonder that you can hear it so well. So far, everything I have used it for has been handled with great ease and satisfaction.

The charging station is pretty convenient and intuitive. My only criticism of it is that the charge light never changes color when the unit is fully charged - this would be a nice feature to add and is one of my issues with the Shark. But you can leave it in the base to trickle charge all the time without issues.

The pivoting nose is great because in the folded position the unit takes up so much less room, while in the extended position it's the right length and balances nicely.

Overall, this is a five-star handheld cordless vacuum and is the one I would recommend to anyone based on my positive experiences with it so far. If anything changes to alter my opinion, I will append this review.

Product Description:
Equipped with 18 volts of power, this cordless handheld vacuum works great for cleaning stairs, underneath furniture, and other areas around the home, as well as inside vehicles. The unit's exclusive 10-position pivoting nozzle offers an integrated extension piece for 50-percent more reach in tight areas, while its cyclonic action helps keep the filter clean so suction power lasts longer. Choose from two speeds--high for maximum pickup or low for extended run time. Accessories include an upholstery brush, a small crevice tool, and a wall-mountable charging base. Other highlights include 35 air watts, an 11-5/6-ounce capacity, three-stage filtration for cleaner air exhaust, an easy-to-empty system where hands don't touch the dirt, and an EZ Clean Wheel system, which makes it simple to clean the filter and instantly improve suction power. In addition, the vacuum has earned an Energy Star rating, which means it meets strict energy-efficiency guidelines set by the EPA and U.S. Department of Energy. Energy Star products can help save up to a third on energy bills, as well as on greenhouse gas emissions--all of which means a cleaner indoor environment without excess costs or impact on the environment. With its innovative design that folds in half for compact charging and storing, the handheld vacuum cleaner measures 17-4/5 by 6-4/5 by 7-2/7 inches and carries a two-year warranty.

Dyson DC14 Animal Cyclone Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

Dyson DC14 Animal Cyclone Upright Vacuum CleanerWe have had the DC14 Animal less than a week, but so far we are amazed at it's performance. With 2 teenage kids, 2 Newfoundland dogs, a cat, a parrot and a finch, the floors see their fair share of dirt, hair, crumbs and feathers. We have mostly carpet with some hardwood floors with runners. This machine does an equally great job on all. Its is easy to push around and the long cord allows you to cover a lot of area without having to find another outlet. The wand is easy to use and, judging by the reviews on the DC07, an improved design. Instead of having to disconnect it from the hose, turn it around and re-connect it as noted on earlier reviews on the DC07, you just release it from the handle and extend it.

I don't put a lot of credit in the "sweep with old vacuum then sweep with new" to determine how much better the new unit is. I tried sweeping with the new unit and then swept again with the new unit and picked up more dirt. The test that convinced me that this does a better job is on an item that has never been succesfully cleaned with the old vacuum. We have a 2x4 dirt mat that is in front of the door between the garage and house. It is of a thick fiber material that catches and holds dirt and especially dog hair. Our old Hoover bagless has never been able to completely clean it. In order to remove the hair, we had to use a short stiff bristle brush and brush it out. The DC14 did the job. Did it do it in one swipe you ask? No. I had to sweep it good to get it clean but it did remove ALL the hair and dirt. I was definitly impressed.

We have not used the tools enough to form any kind of opinion on them yet. We have used the turbo brush on the furniture and it seems to do a decent job but I would recommend that you remove the handle from the hose and fit the brush on the end of the hose. It makes it much easier to use.

OK! That's the fluff. Now for the grit.
I guess nothing in this world is perfect. This is the second DC14 we have had in a week. The first unit made an awful ratcheting noise when we used it on the runners on the hardwood floor. I had seen other reviews that commented on this along with statements that it is a design feature to prevent damage to the life-long brush drive belt. If a rug gets sucked up into the brush and tries to stall the brush, a clutch begines to slip rather than burn the belt up. I called Dyson and they confirmed this. Good plan in theory. However, we had tried both the DC07 and the DC14 display models at the store. The section of carpet was similar to a throw rug. I could see the rug being sucked up to the head and hear the brush bar flogging the snot out of it and neither one of those machines ratcheted. In my case, the brush bar was turning and didn't sound like it was trying to stall so, assuming maybe the tension on the clutch on my machine was not set properly, I took it back and exchanged it for another. No more ratcheting sounds. I think Dyson needs a little more "Quality Control" on their clutch. I might add there is a good example why some items might be better purchased from a local store. Much less hassle if you do experience a problem.

All and all, we are very satisfied with the DC14. Only time will tell on it's durability. But in view of the fact it is an improved version of the DC07 and reviews have shown for the most part it holds up well, I expect this vacuum to last as long or longer than any other leading bagless vacuum currently on the market.

If it wasn't for the fact of having to take the first unit back, I would have given it 5 stars. I recommend the DC14.

Product Description:
Designed for homes with pets, this Dyson upright vacuum cleaner features advanced Root Cyclone technology to ensure thorough, efficient cleaning with no clogging or loss of suction. Effective for use on all floor types, the unit's motorized brushbar can be turned on to remove dirt and pet hair from carpets, or turned off to protect rugs and delicate floors. The unit's pre-motor filter removes particles down to 0.1 micron and can be washed, while its post-motor electrostatic filter, which never needs replacing, traps harmful carbon emissions from the motor.
The vacuum cleaner also comes equipped with a quick-draw Telescope reach; the wand releases and expands 17-feet at the touch of a button for stairs and high-reach cleaning. In addition, the unit's advanced mini turbine head cleans pet hair from confined spaces such as upholstery, stairs, and the car, and its low-reach floor tool attaches to the wand to clean hard-to-reach places such as under beds and sofas. The intake nozzles of the on-board tools direct high-velocity airflow down into the carpet pile, which provides two main advantages. More gets picked up because the directional force of the air agitates and dislodges dust, and it keeps airflow continuous even when vacuuming curtains or upholstery, preventing them from becoming stuck to the cleaner.
Thoughtfully designed, the unit's hygienic 5/7-gallon bin quickly empties without ever having to touch the dust--simply pull the trigger. The clear bin allows for easily viewing the cleaning progress and gauging when the bin's full. Air expelled from the unit contains up to 150 times less mold and bacteria than common breathing air thanks to the vacuum's money-saving, lifetime HEPA filter. Furthermore, Dyson upright vacuums are the first and only vacuums certified asthma friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation. Other highlights include a 14-foot quick-draw hose, a wide channel for picking up larger pieces, auto carpet-height adjustment, a 35-2/5-foot cord, and an ergonomic design with a low handle that feels lighter to carry. The included carpet-care kit helps keep new carpets looking new. The Zorb powder absorbs dirt from carpets; the Dyzolve spray removes spills and marks. Made from ABS and polycarbonate, the same materials used to manufacture crash helmets, the vacuum delivers unquestionable durability. The vacuum cleaner measures 13-3/8 by 14 by 44-6/7 inches and carries a five-year warranty.

Dyson DC17 Asthma & Allergy Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

Dyson DC17 Asthma & Allergy Upright Vacuum CleanerJust purchased the DC 17 allergy and asthma today. Have done a lot of research over the last week and read many reviews. I really wanted a good vacuum I can depend on; I have 6 kids and vacuum daily! Best I can tell each model has the same amount of suction, they just have different options in color, filter placement/type and attachments. I was set on the DC14 model but this was on sale for a great price and had a few more attachments I felt I would really use. So far I am pleased. It appears to pick up as expected, I'm pretty impressed with the amount of junk in the canister and my carpets feel cleaner. This is very easy to maneuver; I see no need for the more expensive ball model, unless you will use all the fancy attachments. All the full size Dyson's felt heavy to me in the store, so I was concerned with getting it up and down the stairs, but in comparison to Hoover etc. they all seem to be about the same weight and hey we could all use a good workout. I find no issues with pushing it around, it moves with great ease and transitions surfaces flawlessly. Turning the beater off to move from carpet to solid floors is a breeze and the feature works wonderfully, just a touch of an easy to reach button. The attachments fit on firmly and do not fall off. The wand will take some getting use to as it is solid for about 18+" and I am use to the hose being flexible at the base. I don't have to bend as much using it though so my back is happy! The hose is very easy to remove for use, just cannot use it for quick pick-ups until you unwind the entire plug, so one minor downfall. It states there is a 5 year warranty, I did not read what all that covers, I will just be relieved to have a vacuum last more than a year with the beating I give them. It is important as with ALL canister vacuums that you tap or wipe out the excess dust from the chamber weekly. I have had many canister vacuums and learned early on to do this often to keep the fine dust from building up or you will loose suction. The filter is easy to remove and clean by running under tap water, so will save on replacement filters in the future! Overall I am happy; we will see how I feel at the 6 mo. And 1 yr. mark. But no regrets today. The only negative I can agree with that I have seen over the last week is the not being able to remove the wand without unwinding the entire cord.

Dyson DC15 Animal Cyclone Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

Dyson DC15 Animal Cyclone Upright Vacuum CleanerI have a Katrina survivor dog that I adopted that can simply be described as a "hair machine."Minutes after vacuuming with my old vac, I'd still see "hair tumbleweeds" here and there.I knew I had to do something, so I ordered the Dyson DC-15.It arrived one day before I arrived at home, and my wife opened it and used it."That new vacuum is amazing!," she said.I figured "amazing" meant "better than the old one."I took it into a carpeted room that she hadn't vacuumed yet, turned it on, and watched in amazement when after about 3 linear feet of movement produced a swirling hairball in the collector. At first I thought it must be residual hair from where she had used it earlier. This was NOT a section of the floor where I could even SEE any hair. The floor looked relatively clean when I started. So, I emptied the collector and started over.Same thing.Incredible! And not just hair, but dirt!

After about 3 weeks with this "Animal," I'm sold.Easy to empty, and every day it does it's thing -- never ceasing to amaze me.I use it daily, and the entire house smells cleaner than it did.

The attachments are nice -- I don't use the mini-turbine head, although I may later. The extension wand makes it easy to get under furniture with as little as 2" clearance (maybe even less).I have a kitchen island that weighs about 400 pounds that I used to have to move to clean underneath (it's on rollers). Now I just vacuum under it.The cool thing about the tools is that everything you need is on the vacuum... including the hose -- but unlike a lot of vacs (like my old Electrolux), you don't have to stop the vac, pull out a hose, attach it to the machine, and revert to upright later. The hose is already attached. You just pull the wand up, press a button, and you've got all you need to get under furniture. This part of the machine is truly a clever design.

This thing has tons of suction, too.Very impressive!

Here are the "cons" to the unit:
1) The hard plastic used on the collector seems like it might be easily broken -- although this hasn't happened yet.I'm not thinking "shatter" here, more like the latch might break. The jury's still out on this one.

2) The manual could have been better.I read.I don't appreciate the "diagram-only" approach to some of the instructions.

That's it, though... and the second one is minor.

Everything else is a "go" on this machine.Get one and you'll see what I mean.

Another thing... some of the reviews I've read complain about the "high pitched whine" or the color of the machine. The machine is pretty quiet.Much quieter than my old Electrolux, but it is A POWERFUL VACUUM and therefore will sound like a vacuum cleaner running!;)And the color?Where do you keep this thing, in a display case?My advice? If you don't like the color, take it to a body shop and let 'em paint it for you -- but don't let the color cause you to miss what I consider to be one of the best deals going in the vacuum cleaner market.

Dyson DC21 Stowaway Canister Vacuum Review

Dyson DC21 Stowaway Canister VacuumI have to admit I was skeptical at first because of the lukewarm "professional" reviews of Dyson in general, but now I'm a true convert.I LOVE this vacuum (coming from someone that HATES housecleaning).

Pros
--Canister style vacuum-great for those of us with back problems that can't push around a heavy upright for long.
--Suction power-WONDERFUL suction on this thing.
--Power brushes-stiff bristles "refresh" the carpet and can easily be turned off by foot controls (no bending down).
--Maneuverability-this has a ball style joint that makes it extremely maneuverable.
--Compact storage-it wraps around itself and is light enough to easily pick up and carry.
--No filters or belts to replace-just clean the built-in filter every 6 months with tap water.
--Quiet!-this is the quietest vacuum I've ever used.
--Retractable cord-guess this is standard on most canisters, but as a former upright user this is a nice feature to me.
--Low profile vacuum head-makes it easier to get under the couches, beds, etc.
--No bags to buy...ever!
--5 Year Warranty

Cons
--No headlight-funny I didn't realize how dark some of my corners are.
--Using attachments is a little awkward because of the larger, inflexible handle, but I imagine I'll get used to it.
--Short power cord-could definitely use a few more feet, but I suspect this was as long as they could fit into the compact unit.
--Power brushes-just a warning here, they're not for delicate carpets. They're rather stiff compared to most and I imagine could do some damage to older/thinner rugs.
--Small collection bin-available volume seems small due to the compact design, but it's EASY to empty, so not really a big problem.
--Price-it's not cheap, but I did find a 20% off coupon on-line for another store so saved $100.

There are enough cons that I can't give this vacuum 5 stars, but none of them are serious enough in my opinion to be major detractors.I'm definitely happy with my purchase.

Other highlights include a motorized cleaner head for easy maneuverability and cleaning in tight spaces, a 16-2/5-foot cord, and 4/9-gallon bin. From the Manufacturer

Dyson's Stowaway canister vacuum is ideal for those who want the convenience and store-ability of a canister but also want a floor-cleaning machine that doesn't lose suction. It easily wraps to store away, as the hose and wand collapse and wrap for storing purposes. Because of its motorized cleaner head, the Stowaway provides an effortless steering experience, making it easy to maneuver and clean in tight spaces. It has a foot operated brush control, so you can operate it without bending down, and a clear polycarbonate bin that lets you see when it's ready to empty.

Dyson Stowaway: The Only Canister that Doesn't Lose Suction

The Stowaway canister vacuum utilizes Dyson's renowned Root12Cyclone technology. The Dyson cyclone spins air at high speed, so dirt and dust are thrown out of the airflow and collected in the bin, not on filters or bags. Unlike other vacuums, a Dyson doesn't clog and lose suction, so it picks up more dirt. Also, the vacuum's motorized brushbar has powerful bristles which remove dirt and pet hair from carpets, and it has no belt to replace. The Stowaway is very hygienic--its clean expelled exhaust air has up to 150 times less bacteria and mold than air you breathe. Lifetime HEPA filtration is another way that this vacuum keeps things clean (it's been approved for allergy sufferers by the British Allergy Foundation). The extra cleaning tools are stored board for simple and rapid access, and, for easier cleaning in confined areas like cars, the tools can be fitted directly to the end of the wand. The Dyson Stowaway also boasts a durable, tough construction--it's made from ABS and polycarbonate, materials used to manufacture crash helmets.

What Makes Dyson Different

Bags Clog Suction

When the vacuum cleaner is empty, clean air flows into the machine and out through the pores of the bag. However as soon as you start to use the machine the bag starts to fill with dust and debris. The bag acts as a filter and the machine starts to lose suction. This is because the pores of the bag begin to clog with the dust that the machine has picked up. This restricts the airflow which causes loss of suction power.

Other Bagless Systems Clog like Bags

When the vacuum cleaner is new, clean air flows through the container and out through the filters.
However as soon as you start to use the machine the container starts to fill with dust and debris. The filters clog, and the machine starts to lose suction.
This is because the surface of the filter becomes blocked with dust, restricting the airflow which causes a loss of suction power.

Only Dyson Doesn't Lose Suction
Dyson Root Cyclone technology uses 200,000G of centrifugal force in the cyclones to filter dust and remove dirt from the airflow efficiently. Because there is nothing to obstruct the airflow, it doesn't clog and doesn't lose suction. Dyson proves no loss of suction claim using the IEC 60312 Cl 2.9 test standard.

Dyson has the Most Advanced Cyclone Technology

Powerful suction spins out larger dirt and debris. The shroud filters out fluff and lint. Centrifugal forces spin out the tiny harmful particles. Cleaner air is expelled into your home.

In 1978, while vacuuming his home, James Dyson realized his bag vacuum cleaner was constantly losing suction power. He noticed how dust quickly clogged the pores of the bag and blocked the airflow, so that suction dropped rapidly. He set to work to solve this problem. 5 years and 5,127 prototypes later, the world's first cyclonic bagless vacuum cleaner arrived.

No Place for New Technology
James Dyson offered his invention to major manufacturers. One by one they turned him down, apparently not interested in new technology. They seemed determined to continue selling bags, worth $500 million every year. Later, Hoover's Vice President for Europe, Mike Rutter, said on UK national TV: "I do regret that Hoover as a company did not take the product technology off Dyson; it would have lain on the shelf and not been used".

Dyson DC17 All Floors Review

Dyson DC17 All FloorsHOLY COW is all I could say after using it for the first time. The amount of "stuff" that came out of our carpets was astonishing.I also feel like I got a great deal on it, on sale for $299 at best buy. That was about the maximum of my price threshold having never seen one in action.Well let me tell you at $499 it would have been a good deal based on how much suction power this thing has.I feel so fortunate to have gotten one for such a good price.

After reading some reviews and product comparisons I decided on the DC17. We needed a new vacuum as our old one was around 8 years old and a lately it seemed to suck at sucking. We have 2 kids and a Labrador Retriever who are constantly tracking dirt and such into the house as well as the animal hair and dander...OMG the amount of hair and dander was astonishing...the carpets after one vacuuming were noticeably cleaner and looked to my wife and I as if they had been steam cleaned.

The only problem with getting this vacuum is that we are now aware of the filth that was residing unseen in our carpets for all those years and the shame that accompanies it is almost unbearable...but persevere we must!!

One note that I read elsewhere and again in the documentation was not to use carpet fresh powder or things like it.

Dyson Air Multiplier? table fan - 10" white Review

Dyson Air Multiplier table fan - 10' whiteWe were attracted to this fan due to its "cool" factor and it performs as advertised. However for its commanding price, it could use some improvements such as:

The silver coating on the 12" model looks like cheap plastic. We exchanged ours for the 10" model in gloss white and it presented a significantly more refined appearance.
We purchased the Dyson to replace a standard table fan in a mini-home theater room to reduce the noise level. Sadly, the Dyson, due to its high speed internal turbo motor, was noticeably louder than the fan it was to replace. We kept it anyhow but for a different application.
For the money, a simple remote control would have been a welcome addition.
The variable speed control is a nice touch but its range seems limited to "medium" on its lowest setting, reducing its usefulness for close-up gentle (and quiet) cooling (in our instance, sharing a computer table).

That said, it it does move a lot of air, looks great and it a no-brainer for anyone with small children.

Dyson DC18 Slim All-Floors Cyclone Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

Dyson DC18 Slim All-Floors Cyclone Upright Vacuum CleanerVacuums often disappoint. They're either unwieldy in size, take too much work to change out longer hoses or put on attachments, etc., need costly bags, or they're heavy or take up too much storage space. And, lastly, they frequently don't live up to performance standards. Well, the Dyson Slim delivers in all but one small category.

As the Cleaning Editor for BellaOnline, I look at cleaning equipment with a serious eye. The first thing I noticed about my Dyson Slim is that performance-wise, it delivers, pulling up cup-full after cup-full of hair, dust, and everything else you find in carpets -- even the ones I had just vacuumed with my regular vacuum (I had to perform a quick "quality assurance" test).

The Dyson Slim also delivers in several other categories, such as storage (it takes 1/3 less space than a regular vacuum), and ease of use. It has the "flick of the wrist" action of the Dyson Ball without the massive weight of the Dyson Ball. This is important to me because I broke my wrist last year and had neck surgery in February. I need a vacuum that I don't have to muscle around the house and that torques my wrist and lower back.

Another spot where it delivers is the size of the vacuum head. It's not as wide as regular vacuums and I was reluctant to buy it because a wider head means more coverage; or so I thought. Actually, the shorter vacuum head, combined with the low profile, means the vacuum gets into very small spaces and underneath sofa skirts, etc., easily and more proficiently than a standard-sized vacuum, helping you to vacuum more quickly and with greater agility.

Where didn't it perform? The attachment heads were a disappointment. There's not a good-sized brush or wide head attachment. The attachments seemed a little cheap and overlooked -- with one exception. The crevice tool/brush combination it comes with is absolutely perfect for vacuuming baseboards (Halleluiah!). But, I also find that I need a nice-sized brush for areas like wood shutters and a wide head attachment to do places such as stairs and tiled areas. However, you can always buy the Dyson wide attachment ($50) and brush separately. Or, I just bought the Kenmore brand attachments that fit the Dyson perfectly. The wide head was only $9.99 -- and it fits in the slot for the Dyson attachments on the vacuum body.

For a vacuum that's easy to maneuver, easy to clean and maintain, takes up less space and gives all the power of a regular-sized Dyson vacuum, the Dyson Slim is a hands-down winner. The only drawback in my mind (better attachments) was no problem because I found an inexpensive work-around. Besides, I'd rather have an easy-to-use vacuum that works well and has chintzy attachments than great attachments on a so-so vacuum. I'd recommend this vacuum to anyone, especially if you want all the power at half the size.

Dyson DC16 Animal Handheld Vacuum Cleaner Review

Dyson DC16 Animal Handheld Vacuum CleanerWe have two small dogs, three cats, three litter boxes, and three bedrooms with carpet. Everything else is hard wood.

I read the reviews here with caution, and debated long before purchasing this product. I looked at what I would be using it for, and didn't think I would need it for much more than six minutes at a time. We also have the Dyson Animal Upright vacuum, so for anything that would require more than six minutes of work, it's not a hassle to haul the big guy out. (And whoa - does that work! Wow.)

Two of the litter boxes are in my "office" (one of the carpeted bedrooms), so I keep this little guy in here, plugged in next to one of the boxes. Every so often, I use it for about a minute to vacuum up any stray crystals, whether they are near the box or elsewhere in the office. When I notice that the hallways have some dust/cat hair building up along the edges, I use this little guy for about thirty seconds and with the crevice tool and the hallways are dust free. The suction is so powerful that you finish your task in what seems like 1/10 of the time if you were using a Dust Buster instead. Same goes for other areas of the apartment. If I see a little dust in the corner, I bring out the little guy. I think that I've used it about one hundred times since purchasing it a month ago, and love it. Couldn't be happier. And the apartment is a lot cleaner. Knowing that I don't have to haul out the larger unit with the cord that needs to be unwrapped, plugged in, then wrapped up when finished, motivates me to be more proactive. (I need a nudge in that direction when it comes to cleaning.)

No other portable/cordless has the power that this has, and the turbo brush on the Dyson (on all Dysons) actually works, whereas every so-called turbo brush I've encountered on lesser vacuum cleaners (Hoover and Bissell) never did. The turbo brush spins powerfully, the suction is fantastic, and it picks up EVERYTHING. Well, not as much of EVERYTHING as the upright, but this little guy blew me away.

The other nice thing about it is that many of the other Dyson attachments (that I bought in addition to what came with the upright) fit this product, making it that much more versatile.

It's expensive, but if I accidentally drop kicked it off the porch tomorrow and it shattered on the cement below, I'd buy a new one immediately. (Of course, I don't plan on drop kicking it any time in the near future.)

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR PET OWNERS.
