Dyson Air Multiplier? table fan - 10" blue Review

Dyson Air Multiplier table fan - 10' blueI own this Dyson fan - no doubt it will end up in the Museum of Modern Art. It is a beauty but the noise is terrible. I just wonder at the great effort to design this unit but to forget the most important part of the fan. Anyone I show it to immediately remarks on the noise. I kept it on its beauty alone.

Dyson Mini Turbine Tool Review

Dyson Mini Turbine ToolIf you're reading this then you've probably experienced one of two things:1.) your animal tool on the purple Dyson finally choked and died or 2.) you have a Dyson and are interested in this tool because it picks up animal hair.Either way, both reasons are why I bought the Dyson in the first place.

This is the attachment/upgrade for the animal tool that was originally put out.The old one (all grey) was EXCELLENT and always got all the hair/lint/whatever off anything I had -- including throw pillows. The problem with the old animal tool was that it was impossible to clean out in case anything got clogged inside of it which eventually kills it.So... this tool that you're looking at is pretty much Dyson's answer -- it's redesigned and been put out. There are plenty of Pros and Cons:

PROS:
- It does work on throw pillows but you have to brush a little lighter. In fact, sweeping side to side almost works better than up and down.

- It can be opened up to clean out any part of it -- something the old one can't do.

- It can fit any Dyson model available.

CONS:

- Unfortunately, it doesn't work as well as the old model (now discontinued) without some patience.

- There is an air filter on it that if bumped, closes and stops the brush from spinning. You'll notice if it does -- just pull it out.Bit of a pain, but not horrible.

- The brush does stop spinning if you flatten it against the material -- this part doesn't make sense to me.Isn't that the point? To get close to the fabric and pull off every bit of fiber you don't want? The original did it just fine.

- At the $69 pricetag I've seen just about everywhere, I feel that this is a SERIOUS error on Dyson's part. This does not perform nearly as well as the old one and therefore overpriced. If there was a discount or a price reduction for those of us who own a Dyson, I'd be happier but this is the first time I've said one of Dyson's products is somewhat of a ripoff.

BOTTOM LINE:

Whelp, if you owned the old one and it's toast I'm afraid that this is your only option. Is it worth it?Well, it still does better than any vacuum attachment I've ever seen but performs at 65% best compared to the discontinued model.Buyer look around for it to (hopefully) be discounted.I could see paying half that price but nowhere is it listed lower.Otherwise, I hope Dyson reads this and either improves it or lowers the price.

2 and 1/2 stars would be my choice: It's half as good as the old one.

Factory-Reconditioned Dyson 12446-02 DC21 Canister Vacuum Review

Factory-Reconditioned Dyson 12446-02 DC21 Canister VacuumFactory-Reconditioned Dyson 12446-02 DC21 Canister Vacuum

Just got it last Friday to replace a Sharp canister. We are in our 40's with 3 young children and a white short hair dog, with black couchs and chairs.

Negs brought up by other reviewers first:

Heavy: Yes, but it's all motor. Powerful motor=heavy weight. Since it's well balanced with good handles I didn't have a problem moving it around. It will follow you straight as long as you snap the center hose conection, (which I didn't at first). If you don't attach this it will not track you when you pull it.

Short cord: As short as the last 3 vacuums I've had. It's not a issue to me.

Plastic construction: It's acrylic and very strong. If it was metal it would weigh even more. I don't expect anything to break unless I throw it over my head down the stairs. The tube that extends seems to be made of powdered metal compressed into form. That's not cheap to do but it's lightweight and strong. Rather than cheap the light weight chassis come across as modern and high tech.

Hard to empty: Couldn't be easier. I take the canister off and put it down into a trash bin before I empty it. No dust. No issue. Easy.

Tube pinching: It can happen. You just have to unwind the tube correctly and it won't pinch for the rest of the vacuuming. Anyone who has used a canister has done this and corrected it within seconds. Really, not a big deal.

Tube collapsing: The clicks are very soft. You just have to pull hard to engage them. Once it locks you will not have this problem, it will stay locked. With my kids the house is never quiet enough to hear the clicks, so I just give it a hard pull.

For myself this is the best vacuum I've ever used. It's a smart design with clever packaging. Love the way it all attachs together for storage. You can change tools in seconds.

The Dyson pulls more stuff in one vacuuming than the sharp (bagless) did in a full week of vacuuming. That's a game changer for me. My dog shed a huge amount of fur on our black bedcover in seconds when I wasn't looking. It would have been 30-45 mins with the sharp + a tape roller. The dyson was taking it off in one pull with the hard floor attachment. Just amazing.

Same with our black couch, which is a constant battle with our white dog. The dyson makes this so easy I could kiss it. I used to put so much time trying to get the fur off before my wife would see it and be rightly upset. Now my dog (and his owner) are safe

The end of the tube is a head unit that snaps into the floor motor brush. This is the only thing you have to adjust too when your using small attachments. It would be nice if they had (I might try to make it) a hose that plugs into the end of the head just for small uses. What I do like about it is you can stand when doing things I had to bend for before. Corner cleaning, ceiling molding, couch and chairs, stuff like that.

I LOVE THIS VACUUM! NO REGRETS!!!!! :)

9-17-09 update. I put the brush attachment on and vaccumed my dog. He wasn't thrilled but I took off so much hair (like brushing) that I'm going to do it weekly. The brush is very soft and it didn't hurt him.

Hose length is very long and the motor is much quieter than the Sharp canister the Dyson replaced. It is also very easy to go from hardwood to carpet with the motorhead switch that your foot uses.

1-19-2010

Update. Going strong with zero problems or issues. Dropped it down a half flight of stairs a few months ago and held my breath but so far so good. Nothing broken or acting up. My rebuilt one came with a hard floor atachment that is very light and works wonderful. Make sure your rebuilt one has that attachment, or pick one up if you have hardwood floors or tile.

The unit's hard-floor tool provides improved pick-up on hard surfaces, while its quick-draw Telescope Reach extends instantly for stair and high-reach cleaning. Turn the motorized brushbar on to remove dirt and pet hair from carpets, or turn it off to protect rugs and delicate floors. Thanks to the vacuum cleaner's money-saving, lifetime HEPA filter, air expelled from the unit contains up to 150 times less mold and bacteria than common breathing air. Other highlights include a motorized cleaner head for easy maneuverability and cleaning in tight spaces, a 16-2/5-foot cord, and 4/9-gallon bin. In addition, the hose and wand compress and wrap for compact storage. The vacuum cleaner measures 17-2/3 by 11 by 13-4/5 inches and carries a six-month warranty.
From the Manufacturer

Dyson's Stowaway canister vacuum is ideal for those who want the convenience and store-ability of a canister but also want a floor-cleaning machine that doesn't lose suction. It easily wraps to store away, as the hose and wand collapse and wrap for storing purposes. Because of its motorized cleaner head, the Stowaway provides an effortless steering experience, making it easy to maneuver and clean in tight spaces. It has a foot operated brush control, so you can operate it without bending down, and a clear polycarbonate bin that lets you see when it's ready to empty.

Dyson Stowaway: The Only Canister that Doesn't Lose Suction

The Stowaway canister vacuum utilizes Dyson's renowned Root12Cyclone technology. The Dyson cyclone spins air at high speed, so dirt and dust are thrown out of the airflow and collected in the bin, not on filters or bags. Unlike other vacuums, a Dyson doesn't clog and lose suction, so it picks up more dirt. Also, the vacuum's motorized brushbar has powerful bristles which remove dirt and pet hair from carpets, and it has no belt to replace. The Stowaway is very hygienic--its clean expelled exhaust air has up to 150 times less bacteria and mold than air you breathe. Lifetime HEPA filtration is another way that this vacuum keeps things clean (it's been approved for allergy sufferers by the British Allergy Foundation). The extra cleaning tools are stored board for simple and rapid access, and, for easier cleaning in confined areas like cars, the tools can be fitted directly to the end of the wand. The Dyson Stowaway also boasts a durable, tough construction--it's made from ABS and polycarbonate, materials used to manufacture crash helmets.

What Makes Dyson Different

Bags Clog Suction

When the vacuum cleaner is empty, clean air flows into the machine and out through the pores of the bag. However as soon as you start to use the machine the bag starts to fill with dust and debris. The bag acts as a filter and the machine starts to lose suction. This is because the pores of the bag begin to clog with the dust that the machine has picked up. This restricts the airflow which causes loss of suction power.

Other Bagless Systems Clog like Bags

When the vacuum cleaner is new, clean air flows through the container and out through the filters.
However as soon as you start to use the machine the container starts to fill with dust and debris. The filters clog, and the machine starts to lose suction.
This is because the surface of the filter becomes blocked with dust, restricting the airflow which causes a loss of suction power.

Only Dyson Doesn't Lose Suction
Dyson Root Cyclone technology uses 200,000G of centrifugal force in the cyclones to filter dust and remove dirt from the airflow efficiently. Because there is nothing to obstruct the airflow, it doesn't clog and doesn't lose suction.

Dyson has the Most Advanced Cyclone Technology

Powerful suction spins out larger dirt and debris. The shroud filters out fluff and lint. Centrifugal forces spin out the tiny harmful particles. Cleaner air is expelled into your home.
The Dyson Story
James Dyson

You know the feeling when some everyday product lets you down. You wish someone could solve the problem. James Dyson does that. He is a man who likes to make things work better. With his research team he has developed products that have achieved sales of over $10 billion worldwide.

The Bag Problem
In 1978, while vacuuming his home, James Dyson realized his bag vacuum cleaner was constantly losing suction power. He noticed how dust quickly clogged the pores of the bag and blocked the airflow, so that suction dropped rapidly. He set to work to solve this problem. 5 years and 5,127 prototypes later, the world's first cyclonic bagless vacuum cleaner arrived.

No Place for New Technology
James Dyson offered his invention to major manufacturers. One by one they turned him down, apparently not interested in new technology. They seemed determined to continue selling bags, worth $500 million every year. Later, Hoover's Vice President for Europe, Mike Rutter, said on UK national TV: "I do regret that Hoover as a company did not take the product technology off Dyson; it would have lain on the shelf and not been used".

Editor's note: This is a reconditioned vacuum. Reconditioned generally means that the appliance has been returned to the manufacturer, so it may contain cosmetic blemishes. This item has a six-month warranty.

Dyson 25 Low-Reach Dyson-DC07 Floor-Tool Attachment Review

Dyson 25 Low-Reach Dyson-DC07 Floor-Tool AttachmentI bought this attachment to clean our carpeted stairs. It works well for that application but I was surprised to find out it is best suited for vacuuming our tile floors.Whereas our old vacuum would just spit out the dirt as it passed over it, this attachment works great at getting all of the dust and hair that gathers along the edges of our tiled floors.I use the Dyson without tools on our carpet and then I put this attachment on to do under the sofa and tables and all of our tiled surfaces.Works great!

Dyson Home Cleaning Kit Review

Dyson Home Cleaning KitI finaly bought a Dyson a couple of months ago and was totally thrilled with it, but noticed that it lacked some good cleaning tools. I got on Amazon and saw this box set and got excited. Just like the vacuum, it is a little pricey for what you get and totally worth it. These tools are basic, but add exactly what the vacuum needs. They work great and are sturdy. I would buy these again if anything happened to them.

Dyson Air Multiplier? table fan - 12" silver Review

Dyson Air Multiplier table fan - 12' silverI work out of my home, and if I ran the A/C all summer long for 18 hours a day, the cost would be tremendous, so I find that out of necessity, I have some experience with a variety of fans.

Fan selection comes down to 4 criteria:

1) Sound level
2) Air quality
3) Rotation
4) Price

Sound level: The Dyson is slighly ahead of the competition here. On its highest setting it can be loud, but no louder than a regular fan. On the lower settings, I tend to forget it is running. Its emits a constant hum, that you tend to filter out.

Air Quality: I'm not exaggerating here when I say it is like a soft breeze blowing through an open window. I find that I now run my fan all day long, whereas before, the buffeting, choppy air of my previous fan would be too distracting. Today, several times, I turned off my Dyson, thinking there was enough of a breeze blowing through the open window. In fact there was no breeze. The fan was responsible for the lovely air.

Rotation: Very smooth and silent, with adjustable pitch (pointing up or down), and no annoying click when it changes direction.

Price: Yes, the Dyson is expensive, but you will find that once you've experienced the Dyson Air Multiplier - and be sure to give it a few days - you won't go back.

Dyson 36 Flexi Crevice Tool Review

Dyson 36 Flexi Crevice ToolI originally was only intending to get the flexi crevice tool.Luckily, I bought some others, too, that ended up being worth the whole experience. The problems with this tool are 2-fold.First, it's not nearly as flexible as I need as it doesn't actually bend but is only just not completely stiff.Second, the bristle end quickly gets clogged with dog hair and dust, so that I have to keep clearing it.With as many dogs as we do and a continual battle with black widow spiders (the messiest webs around), I'm still depending heavily on the regular crevice tool and then going back over with flexi crevice tool when cleaning under and behind appliances. But difficult angles, such as a semi-flush ceiling lamp, still elude me without getting all the way up on a ladder.

Dyson DC16 Root 6 Handheld Vacuum Cleaner Review

Dyson DC16 Root 6 Handheld Vacuum CleanerI am a huge fan of Dyson and own TWO Dyson uprights. Dyson sent me an email to offer registered owners first crack at purchasing this handheld which recently arrived to the US market, and I jumped at the offer, but I am extremely disappointed in the battery life.

This otherwise great tool is deeply flawed for running only five minutes. It's really a shame Dyson released this product with such a short battery-operated running time.

Product Description:
Designed for quick pick-ups, this powerful handheld vacuum cleaner features Root Cyclone technology and a constant suction power of 36 air watts--twice the power of other handhelds. Dyson proves no loss of suction using the IEC 60312 Cl 2.9 test standard. The cordless unit vacuums up both small and large debris from carpets, smooth tabletop surfaces, computer keyboards, and other areas around the home. Like many handhelds, the Dyson Root 6 delivers up to six minutes of powerful continuous cleaning on each full charge, but, uniquely, it recharges up to three times faster.
In addition, the hygienic unit exhausts only fresh, clean air back into the room, and its 0.21-gallon clear bin offers a one-touch cup-emptying system to keep hands clear from dirt. Its bagless design and lifetime washable filters mean cost-free maintenance--no bags or filters to replace. Other highlights include 21.6-volt lithium-ion battery technology, an LED battery indicator, a charger cord length of 4-8/9 feet, a wall-mounted battery charger and fixing screws, and high-velocity airflow tools, which include a crevice tool and a combination accessory tool. Lightweight and ergonomic, the handheld vacuum cleaner measures 4-2/7 by 18-2/7 by 8-8/9 inches and carries a two-year warranty.

Dyson Allergy Cleaning Kit Review

Dyson Allergy Cleaning KitI bought this because I really wanted more attachments than those that came with our Dyson (which, as anallergic asthmatic with cats, I love). The mattress attachment and dust brush are the most useful to me. I vac. mattresses at least once a week and have a huge selection of bookcases that quickly become dusty. I've used the narrow wand for getting lint out of the clothes dryer. It really doesn't work well for much anything else. What is really missing from Dyson is a longer hose. This collection would be so much better with that omission corrected.

Dyson DC17 Animal Cyclone Upright Vacuum Cleaner Review

Dyson DC17 Animal Cyclone Upright Vacuum CleanerStrengths:
1. Best suction even among other Dyson models due to new Level 3 Root Cyclone.
2. Excellent build quality. Each piece is not an after-thought.
3. Best design - shape, color, material and operation.

Weaknesses:
1. Price - but you do pay for the technology it has to offer.
2. Heavy!
3. The cones gets clogged from fine dirt in time.

Summary: This is arguably one of the best "bagless" household vacuum cleaners money can buy. Dyson's root cyclone technology really does perform. And this latest Level 3 Root Cyclone trumps even its other models.

If you're serious about having a real clean environment, this is THE product to buy. I just moved into an apartment a month ago and they replaced the carpets in most of the area and steam cleaned the others that they deemed need not be replaced. I used the vacuum in both and I can tell you that steam cleaning old carpets may get rid of surface dirt and stains, but Dyson is your friend if you want to suck out most (if not all) the dirt hidden below the surface. I could not believe how much dust it was picking up in such a small area. The bin filled up pretty fast so I was on to round 2 in the same patch of rug. This time it was picking up very find dust. Dust that may have been stuck for years and was never sucked out from other vacuum systems. Round 3 time and you will smile when you realize there is nothing else that's being collected in the bin. As for the newly installed carpets, I could only collect find dust until no more could be collected.

Unlike other vacuums in the market, this is one heck of a quiet vacuum in a relative way. Of course it's still noisy, but as with other brands this won't hurt your noise environment. In fact I am able to vacuum even at night with no fear that my neighbors beside and above my unit will hear me.

You're not only paying for the suction technology, you're also paying for the build quality. Each part has quality reflected on it. While the design is modern.

Of course nothing is perfect. This thing is heavy. DO NOT vacuum the stairs while the machine is on the top stair because if this thing falls on you, there will be serious injury and damage.

The quick-draw expandable hose is a good idea. But it's also not as flexible as I would have imagined it to be. It's easy to expand and retract, but the long handle commands that the vacuum is at a distance from where you want to use the telescope handle if you want to operate it comfortably.

Among other bagless vacuums, this is the easiest to dump the contents. But just like all other bagless vacuums, dust will certainly be flying away from the trash unless you have a very deep trash can. Plus the fine holes around the cyclone technology gets clogged from fine dust in time so you will need to clean those tiny holes from time to time if you want the Dyson to perform it's best everytime.

The lifetime Hepa filter is a great addition below. They recommend only washing with water and drying at least 24 hours near a heater/radiator - and they really do mean 24 hours. It's big and thick so it won't dry out quickly. So if you find the need to frequently vacuum the next day, I recommend getting an extra Hepa filter to use.

The motorized brush bar helps pick up stuff from the carpet. This can be turned off for delicate rugs and floors. Just like other vacuums, hair and other long items can be trapped around the brush bar and need to be removed from time to time. It is also belt-driven so this can snap and break especially if inadvertently caught on a loose item. So be careful of this.

Overall, Dyson is a wonderful machine to have and will surely last longer if properly taken care of.
If you are extremely allergic to dust, I believe a better alternative is to go with Oreck XL as it ensures you will not be in contact with the dust particles due to it's ingenious bag design that closes shut when removed.
