I work out of my home, and if I ran the A/C all summer long for 18 hours a day, the cost would be tremendous, so I find that out of necessity, I have some experience with a variety of fans.Fan selection comes down to 4 criteria:
1) Sound level
2) Air quality
3) Rotation
4) Price
Sound level: The Dyson is slighly ahead of the competition here. On its highest setting it can be loud, but no louder than a regular fan. On the lower settings, I tend to forget it is running. Its emits a constant hum, that you tend to filter out.
Air Quality: I'm not exaggerating here when I say it is like a soft breeze blowing through an open window. I find that I now run my fan all day long, whereas before, the buffeting, choppy air of my previous fan would be too distracting. Today, several times, I turned off my Dyson, thinking there was enough of a breeze blowing through the open window. In fact there was no breeze. The fan was responsible for the lovely air.
Rotation: Very smooth and silent, with adjustable pitch (pointing up or down), and no annoying click when it changes direction.
Price: Yes, the Dyson is expensive, but you will find that once you've experienced the Dyson Air Multiplier - and be sure to give it a few days - you won't go back.
